Welcome to the ChatWick Financial Blog

We started ChatWick because of a simple observation: the people who need financial guidance the most are the least likely to get it.

Only 36% of Americans have a written financial plan (Charles Schwab, 2024). The median hourly fee for a financial advisor is $300 (NerdWallet, 2024). Those two facts are directly connected — and they're the reason this blog exists.

What Is ChatWick?

ChatWick is a free AI financial planner. You start a conversation, tell it about your situation, and it helps you build a personalized financial plan — no jargon, no sales pitch, no $300 invoice.

We're not trying to replace financial advisors. We're trying to fill the gap for the millions of people who can't access one. If you have a straightforward financial situation — a job, some debt, goals you want to reach — you can build a solid plan yourself. ChatWick helps you do that.

But an AI chat is only part of the picture. Financial literacy matters just as much as financial tools. That's why we launched this blog.

Why We Write About Money

There's no shortage of financial content on the internet. So why add more?

Because most of it falls into two camps: oversimplified platitudes ("just save more!") or impenetrable jargon designed for people who already understand finance. Neither helps the person sitting at their kitchen table wondering how to pay off their credit cards and start saving at the same time.

We write for that person.

Our blog covers the practical, unsexy work of getting your finances together. We don't pretend it's easy. We don't shame you for where you're starting. We just walk through the steps — with real numbers, real tools, and honest advice about what works and what doesn't.

What You'll Find Here

We organize our content around the topics that matter most for building a financial foundation:

DIY Financial Planning. You don't need to hire an advisor to build a real plan. Our guide to building a financial plan without an advisor walks through the entire six-step process — from assessing your net worth to protecting what you've built. It's the most comprehensive piece on the blog and a good place to start.

Tools and Resources. There are genuinely good free financial tools out there, and most people don't know about them. We put together an honest comparison of free financial planning tools — including our own — so you can find what fits your situation. No affiliate links, no hidden agendas.

How AI Fits In. AI financial planning is new, and people have legitimate questions about it. We wrote a transparent look at how AI financial planning actually works — including what it does well and where it falls short. We'd rather you trust us because we were honest than because we hid the limitations.

When to Get Professional Help. We're not anti-advisor. Some situations genuinely call for a professional. Our breakdown of what financial advisors do vs. AI tools helps you figure out when DIY is enough and when it's worth paying for expertise.

Getting Started. If you've never had a financial plan before, that's completely normal — most people haven't. Our step-by-step financial plan template gives you a fill-in-the-blank framework. No finance degree required.

Our Approach to Content

We hold ourselves to a few principles:

Real numbers, real sources. Every statistic we cite links back to the original source — Federal Reserve data, Schwab surveys, peer-reviewed research. If we can't source it, we don't publish it.

Honest about limitations. We're an AI tool writing about money. We know that comes with baggage, especially for YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) content. We don't pretend AI is a replacement for a fiduciary. We're transparent about where the technology falls short and when you should seek human advice.

No shame, no hype. Financial content loves to make people feel bad ("you should have started investing at 18!") or overpromise ("this one trick will make you rich!"). We do neither. Wherever you're starting from, we meet you there.

Actionable, not theoretical. Every article ends with something you can actually do. We're not interested in writing content that makes you feel informed but not empowered. The goal is always: read this, then take one step forward.

Where to Start Reading

If you're new here, start with the article that matches where you are right now:

Or skip the reading entirely and start a conversation with ChatWick. It takes about five minutes to get your first plan outline — and it's completely free.

What's Coming Next

We publish new content regularly, covering topics across four main areas: financial planning without an advisor, budgeting and debt strategies, investing basics, and retirement planning. We also maintain a learning library with shorter, focused articles on specific topics like emergency funds, budgeting methods, and retirement planning basics.

Financial planning isn't something you figure out once and forget about. Your plan changes as your life changes. We'll be here to help you navigate each stage — with practical content, free tools, and the occasional nudge to keep going.

Welcome. Let's get your money working for you.
